Raw Manuka Honey: A Powerful Anti-Aging and Longevity Enhancing Food

Various factors contribute to an individual’s longevity: gender, genetics, access to health care, hygiene, diet and nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, etc.

Some of these factors are beyond our control, but the most important one of them, our lifestyle, is definitely something we do have a say in.

Anti-aging is about looking and feeling young and the easiest and fastest way to boost your longevity is by introducing some natural anti-aging lifestyle habits.

Anti-Aging is all About Lifestyle

anti-aging

While you can’t stop aging, you can, in a way, slow it down. There is no easier way to do so than through healthy lifestyle habits.

The five most important elements of a lifestyle are:

  • Diet

Rather than worry about the calorie intake, you should place an emphasis on eating nutrient-rich, natural foods that can provide all the fuel your body needs to stay healthy long past retirement age. Start by avoiding highly processed foods, sugars, and trans fats, and opt instead for fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and plenty of water. But, perhaps the most important change should be to incorporate good quality raw honey into your everyday diet. Honey comes from different plants and areas, and its nutritional value varies greatly. The most superior honey known today is the Manuka honey, that comes from a small, isolated area in New Zealand.

  • Exercise

Physical activity makes your heart rate go up which ensures that more oxygen is circulated through your body.

  • Sufficient Rest

Sleep for at least 6 hours a night because it’s well-known that sleep deprivation can make your skin age prematurely.

  • Stress Management

Stress is a “normal” part of life, normal in the sense that it can hardly be avoided. However, learning to manage stress makes the difference between living a life, and just coping with life.

  • Positive Attitude

Positive outlook on life is very important and it’s no secret that positive people live on average 7 years longer.

How Manuka Honey Boosts Longevity

anti-aging

Raw Manuka honey contains unique antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, stomach-healing, wound-repairing properties that make it one of the most important “power foods” you could include in your diet.

Raw Manuka honey boosts your longevity by ensuring you remain healthy, fit, disease-free, with regular digestion, healthy skin and eyes, that you sleep soundly and peacefully throughout the night, maintain a healthy weight and have plenty of running fuel to keep you going throughout the day.

  • Antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties destroy any infection you might accidentally pick up and boost your immune system.

  • Anti-inflammatory properties heal ulcers and coughs.

  • Antioxidant properties help neutralize damaging free radicals activity.

  • Antiseptic properties heal wounds.

Anti-aging is about postponing the onset of old age, while maintaining strong and healthy body. Raw Manuka honey does not only protect your overall health, it also boosts your metabolism. Sluggish metabolism and slow fat burning are typical of old age. By replacing sugar with honey you will speed up the rate at which you burn calories and thus lose weight natural way.

Five Easy Ways to Incorporate Raw Manuka Honey into Your Diet

Honey has been used for thousands of years both as an instant energy booster and for its medicinal properties.

The raw Manuka honey, being 4 times more powerful than ordinary honey, not only boosts your energy, but your immune system too. Incorporating it into your diet will not only ensure tasty meals, but it will also improve health and boost the immune system.

Honey in Your Diet

diet

Everyone can use honey, unless they are allergic to it.  So, start with a teaspoonful and gradually increase it to two spoonfuls a day. You should not give honey to babies under 1 year of age.

Honey can be incorporated into your diet in many ways:

  • Use it instead of sugar

  • Use it instead of jam on toast, or instead of syrup on pancakes or waffles

  • Take it before going to bed for restful sleep

  • Take a spoonful of raw honey in a glass of water first thing in the morning if you’re constipated

  • It helps fight obesity and loose that extra weight if you take it everyday in the morning on an empty stomach with water and lemon.

Cooking with Honey

diet

Despite many mouthwatering recipes, honey should not be used in cooking. Heating honey destroys enzymes and considerably dilutes a lot of its medicinal value. Only raw, ie unheated and unfiltered honey has incredible anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Even according to Ayurveda, honey should never be used heated as it becomes not only useless, but toxic when heated.

This means you should NEVER put honey in hot tea or use it in baking. The reason raw honey is so healthy is because it has not been heated, a process that destroys most of its healing properties.

One of the features of a beehive is that bees maintain a constant temperature inside the hive of about 36 degrees Celsius. Therefore, that is the ideal temperature at which honey should be used.

Different Ways Raw Manuka Honey Can Be Used

There are many ways of including honey in your diet, without exposing it to high temperatures:

  • Use it to sweeten your dressings or marinades

  • Stir it into warm tea, coffee, milk, lemonade, milkshake, latte or water

  • Drizzle honey on top of toast or pancakes

  • Mix honey into yogurt, cereal or oatmeal

  • Spread raw honey over toast or over peanut butter

  • Drizzle honey over ice cream or fruit salad

  • Dip grilled fruit kebabs in honey

  • Drizzle honey over roasted vegetables (this goes well with sweetish-tasting vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin and sweet potatoes)

  • Add a little bit of honey into pumpkin soup

  • Drizzle honey over roasted apples or grilled squash

  • Add it to melted cocoa powder and butter to make a Honey Chocolate Sauce

  • Make honey butter spread by adding orange rind and honey to warm butter

  • Mix sour cream, cocoa powder and honey to make a chocolate honey dip (for fruit kebabs or fresh fruit)

  • Use it as fruit preservative

  • Make honey wine (mead)

Why Everyone Needs a Jar of Manuka Honey in Their Cupboard

We know that all natural honey varieties have amazing healing properties, but not all honey is the same. How potent as a healing agent a honey will be, depends on the type of honey, ie on the type of plants it was made of.

Honey is so beneficial for our health, that it’s often referred to as “liquid gold”, and with reason. It helps prevent cancer and heart disease, reduces ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders, increases athletic performance, heals wounds and burns, etc.

However, what makes Manuka honey special is that it has 4 times the power of ordinary honey!

It contains unique antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, stomach-healing, wound-repairing, and overall health-promoting properties that make it one of the “power foods” that no household should be without.

Manuka honey stands out from all other types of honey because of its nutritional composition.

Raw honey is collected straight from the honey extractor, and is unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed. On the other hand, most of the honey found in the supermarket is not raw honey but “commercial” honey, which means it’s been pasteurized. In other words, it was heated at 70 degree Celsius or more, then cooled rapidly in order to make it easier to filter and bottle. During the pasteurization process, its delicate aromas and enzymes which represent the healing property of honey, are partially (sometimes completely) destroyed.

Although honey is the oldest kind of sweetener, it is much more than sugar. For thousands of years honey has been used in different ways and for different reasons to help give the human body energy and health.

Unlike commercial honey, raw honey contains all the pollen, enzymes and other micro-nutrients that are usually filtered out or destroyed by heat when the honey is processed

Raw, unheated and unfiltered honey is a rich source of: Amino acids, B vitamins (B6, Thiamin, Niacin, Riboflavin, Pantothenic acid), Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc).

But, although all raw honey has powerful immune system boosting abilities, it is produced from different plants and comes from different locations, which all affect its nutrient content and quality.

Manuka raw honey is produced only in New Zealand, in a pollution-free location. This makes it a unique, healthy and very rich source of these nutrients, which can be up to 4 times that of the regular raw honey.

This is what is called the Unique Manuka Factor.

Unique Manuka Factor (UMF)

Fresh, Authentic and Powerful Manuka Honey Can Be Bought Here

Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) is a global standard in identifying and measuring the antibacterial strength of Manuka honey. In other words, UMF is a guarantee that the honey you buy is of a medicinal quality.

In the 1980s, New Zealand researchers discovered that Manuka honey has a considerably higher level of enzymes than regular honey. These enzymes create a natural hydrogen peroxide that works as an antibacterial. Some strains of this New Zealand honey are particularly rich in hydrogen peroxide, methylglyoxal and dihydroxyacetone, and it is the concentration of these elements that makes Manuka honey highly effective at treating wounds, burns, and other skin problems.

However, UMF is not found in all Manuka flowers. This means that some varieties of Manuka honey contain antibacterial properties just like other honey varieties. That’s why the UMF grading system is used. It identifies the natural unadulterated Manuka honey that has a special unique natural property found only in some strains of honey.

The concentration of UMF shows how successfully a particular strain of honey can fight bacteria and promote healing, which is why it has to be indicated on the jar.

All Manuka honey jars have to have a label claiming that it’s genuine Manuka honey, as well as a number which represents the unique signature of the honey. For example, UMF10+, UMF15+, etc.

Kiva Manuka Honey UMF 20+ , Authentic and Fresh From New Zealand!

The UMF quality trademark ranges from 5 upwards

  • 0-4 Not detectable

  • 5-9 Low levels

  • 10-15 Useful levels

  • 16+ Superior high grade levels

The following is the UMF grading system

0-4 Non-therapeutic (ie like other ordinary types of honey)

4-9 Maintenance level with general honey health benefits

10-14 Supports natural healing and bacterial balance

15+ Superior levels of phenol’s that are highly therapeutic but shouldn’t exceed taking 1 tbsp at a time

Understanding the UMF Grading System

Basically, the higher the level of UMF, the higher the level of effectiveness and healing benefits.

Manuka honey UMF20+ is one of the highest certified grades. It is only available in very limited quantities and is in huge demand.

Manuka honey can be used internally or externally. You can mix it with warm water or tea, or spread on bread or toast.

The ideal UMF rating varies depending on what you need it for, but generally, UMF12 to UMF15 Manuka honey is considered highly effective against a wide range of very resistant bacteria.

You should not give it to babies under 1 year of age (this goes for all types of honey)..

How to Verify if Manuka Honey is Authentic

manuka

Make Sure You Get 100% Authentic New Zealand Manuka Honey!

Because Manuka honey is used for its exceptional medicinal qualities, it has to undergo a number of tests to show it is natural and unadulterated and that the grading claim on the label is true.

The minimum UMF rating recognized is UMF5, however, it is not considered medicinally beneficial unless it carries a UMF 10+ level of antibacterial activity in the honey. Anything ranging from UMF10-UMF15 is a useful level, and anything UMF16 and up is considered a superior quality.

Genuine UMF Manuka Honey will have these four things

  • UMF trademark clearly labeled on the front of the container.

  • From a New Zealand UMF licensed company and labeled in New Zealand.

  • It will have the UMF company’s name and license number on the label.

  • It will have a UMF rating number of 5-16+. If it is labeled without the UMF or without a number, then it is not the genuine article.
